Attentions Taxpayers – Incorrect Preliminary Tax Bills Issued
Some of the preliminary Fiscal Year 2024 tax bills recently mailed to Town of Barnstable taxpayers are incorrect. The Fiscal Year 2024 preliminary tax bills should equal one-half of a taxpayer’s Fiscal Year 2023 tax but in some cases it was more or less for approximately 1800 real estate accounts; with a majority of them being under billed. This appears to be associated with taxpayers that either received an abatement or exemption against their Fiscal Year 2023 tax bill. Town staff is working with our software vendor to identify the issue. There will be no fees or interest charged to taxpayers impacted by this matter on the preliminary tax bills until 11/1/2023. The Town’s Tax office will be mailing letters to impacted taxpayers indicating the correct amounts of tax due on August 1 and November 1. Sample letter is attached. Additionally, town staff will provide mortgage escrow companies with the corrected tax bill information so that escrow accounts are not impacted. In the meantime, anyone who thinks their preliminary tax bills are incorrect can contact the Tax Collector’s office at 508-862-4054 for further guidance. Stay Up to Date & Download “My Barnstable” App
The Town of Barnstable is excited to launch My Barnstable, a push notification mobile application powered by GOGov. This application puts the power of town hall in the palm of your hand.
The app is a great source of information for town news, events, service interruptions and updates, and important links to the town’s website. And town staff can streamline important community communications and information to citizens in more efficient ways.
To download the free app, go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search “My Barnstable” to find the app.
By default, all notification categories are available to unregistered users. If you would like to customize what notifications you receive, you can create an account within the My Barnstable App choose which notifications categories you would like information sent to you.

DOWNTOWN HYANNIS 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS
Hyannis Main Street will be closed to traffic for two and half hours from 5:00 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 4th before the Cape Symphony takes to the stage at Aselton Park. In celebration of diversity through the international language of music and dance, dozens of local musicians and professional dance instructors will be on hand to invite the public to join as they dance in the streets of Hyannis.
The event starts at Hyannis Harbor with a Boat Parade at 4:30 PM. Spectators can move from there to the mile-long span of live music and dancing representing the community of cultures that founded Our Nation and exists here today.

HYANNIS HARBOR BOAT PARADE — The public is invited to participatein this annual event. Boat owners can decorate their watercraft and report to the dock master at Hyannis Marina and register. Boats will circle the inner harbor and show off their civic pride to the many hundreds of spectators that gather each year along the waterfront at Bismore Park. If you are a boater and want to participate, the boats assemble off of Hyannis Yacht Club and head to the inner harbor to show off their red, white and blue at approximately 4:30PM. DOWNTOWN HYANNIS Movement Arts Cape Cod will infuse a multi-faceted variety of dance styles like Capoeira, Salsa, Hip–Hop, Country line dancing, Greek Folk, Egyptian belly dancing, Nia, Afro-Diaspora Improv and more into a street full of live music and deejays working the crowd. The public is invited to register to win a prize by showing off the most patriotic style.
Performances on the Bandstand will include the Cape Cod Ukulele Club (5:00PM) and the Cape Cod Moonlighters (6:30 PM). The Hyannis Film Festivalwill pay tribute to all things Hyannis with a Patriotic twist. All are welcome to play lawn games at the Village Green, visit the HyArts Artist Shanties at the Harbor Overlook and at Bismore Park and contribute to the Community Art Wall at the Hyannis Public Library. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy and admission is FREE! THE CAPE SYMPHONY and TOWN OF BARNSTABLE Joy4July CELEBRATION AT ASELTON PARK (no rain date). This event is the culmination of the Town of Barnstable’s day-long celebrations, which include village parades, the Hyannis Harbor boat parade, and music and dance on Main Street and at the Hyannis Village Green and Bandstand. The festivities lead up to a tradition in the making with Cape Symphony performing the second annual free concert at Aselton Park. Special guests joining the Cape Symphony for this performance include vocalist and star of “Hamilton” Julius Thomas III, who previously performed with the Symphony in February 2022; vocalist and former Cape resident Chantal Joseph; a cappella group Cape Harmony, comprised of 10 talented singers from across the country who come to Cape Cod during the summer to make music for its residents and visitors; and the President of the Barnstable Town Council and well-known tenor Matthew Levesque. Blending pop, Broadway, patriotic, and Americana music, “Joy4July” is free to the public and no tickets are required. |
PARKING & TRANSPORTATION – There are several municipal lots in downtown Hyannis where free parking is available for up to six hours. Metered spaces in other locations can be accessed through https://www.mpay2park.com/ or by paying at the kiosks in those lots. The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) has hourly parking available at the Hyannis Transportation Center. Long term parking is also available for daily rates. The CCRTA will be operating the seasonal Hyannis Trolley on its regular route with a loop every 45 minutes throughout the day.
MOBILITY IMPAIRED ACCOMMODATIONS – Limited parking is available for motorists with valid placard or plate at the Armory Lot on South Street across from the Town Hall. Motorists who wish to drop off mobility impaired guests can do so at the Maritime Museum located at 135 South Street.
SECOND SUMMER FIREWORKS – There will be no town-sponsored fireworks on July 4th due to ongoing concerns with federally protected species. Alternatively, the second annual ‘Second Summer Fireworks’ will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from a barge in Lewis Bay with spectator viewing at Kalmus and Veterans Park Beaches.
