As of sunrise July 12, 2017 shellfish areas within the Town of Barnstable in accordance with Chapter 130, section 74A of the Massachusetts General Laws, MGL, the Division of Marine Fisheries has determined that those areas closed due to rainfall on July 7, 2017, now meet the National Shellfish Sanitation Program guidelines for an “OPEN” status.
Therefore under authority of MGL, Chapter 130, Section 74A, 75 and 322 CMR 7.01 (7) the below-defined areas will revert to their former status prior to the closure of July 7, 2017; effective at sunrise Wednesday, July 12, 2017.
Those areas previously classified as APPROVED and in the “OPEN “ status to shellfish harvesting are now open to the harvest of shellfish for direct human consumption subject to local rules and regulations under authority of MGL Chapter 130, section 52. Similarly, those areas classified as CONDITIONALLY APPROVED are open subject to the classification conditions. Areas classified as RESTRICTED, CONDITIONALLY RESTRICTED and PROHIBITED remain closed to the harvest of shellfish for direct human consumption.

The closure will remain in effect until further notice. Town of Barnstable Fireworks
FIREWORKS DISPLAY: TUESDAY, JULY 4, 2017 (Shot off of a barge in Lewis Bay, Hyannis at dusk (9:00 PM) by Atlas Fireworks of New Hampshire.
Viewing: The main viewing locations for this year’s fireworks will be Aselton Park, Bismore Park, and Veteran’s Park Beach. Kalmus Beach will be available for handicapped parking only.
Fireworks Parking (Barnstable): A Parking Ban will be in effect South of South Street (Ocean Street, Old Colony Boulevard, Gosnold Street and all streets running off of Gosnold Street) from 5:00 PM to midnight to allow for pedestrian access. Parking will be available in the North Street parking lots and Town Hall parking lot. Tow Zones Strictly Enforced. Carpooling suggested.
Tune into 95.1 WXTK for the official soundtrack to the fireworks during the display.

PURCHASE 2018 TRANSFER STATION STICKERS NOW!
2017 EXPIRES JUNE 30
It is that time of year to head to Town of Barnstable Transfer Station to purchase your annual Residential Transfer Station Sticker. Last year’s transfer station sticker allows you entry until June 30, 2017. Residents must also renew their Free Recycle Only Sticker. The fiscal year 2018 transfer station sticker will be valid July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. The fiscal year 2018 sticker cost $240 for one vehicle and $25 for second vehicle per household.
Transfer Station office located at 45 Flint Street, Marstons Mills during normal business hours: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. seven days a week. To obtain a sticker, you must bring a copy of your valid vehicle registration showing a Barnstable street address, additional documents may be required. Stickers may be obtained through the mail using this form HERE

Please be advised that the Hyannis Firefighter’s and Hyannis Fire Department are NOT soliciting donations via phone and asking for people’s credit card information. A Centerville resident received a call from a person named Glenn representing a group named Fire Charity Group. The telephone number was 781.484.2558. Apparently, they claimed to be raising funds for local fire departments. If you have been solicited, please contact the Barnstable Police 508.775.0387 to log the incidents occurrence and information. Please remember if you’re ever solicited for donations by any public safety union or department to contact them directly for confirmation of the fundraising effort’s legitimacy.

Due to recent reported violations of the Rules & Regulations governing Town Cemeteries please review them HERE to familiarize yourself when visiting Mosswood or any other Town owned cemetery. Particular attention to the following rule:
Domestic animals of any type shall not be permitted in the cemeteries, except certified animals assisting persons with disabilities.
