Under the Grand Tent at the Dottridge Homestead

The Taste of Cotuit is the Historical Society’s signature event and major fundraiser of the summer season.
An evening of fine wines and delicious food from our local eateries, it brings together neighbors and friends in the same community spirit that exemplifies Cotuit . Our food vendors include the Cotuit Fresh Market, Cotuit Oyster Co., Kettle Ho Restaurant, and Polar Cave Ice Cream. In addition, there is live musical entertainment and a live auction  where guests can bid on unique packages donated by area merchants. We will have 11 door prizes and a live auction starting at 7:00PM, featuring the barn boards from our OVERBOARD project.  These original boards, salvaged from a New England barn, were given to local artisans who have crafted something special out of them. All proceeds from the Taste go directly towards the Scholarship, Programs  and Historical Preservation activities of HSSC.

Shellfishing RE-OPENS at Sunrise Today

 As of sunrise July 12, 2017 shellfish areas within the Town of Barnstable in accordance with Chapter 130, section 74A of the Massachusetts General Laws, MGL,  the Division of Marine Fisheries has determined that those areas closed due to rainfall on July 7, 2017, now meet the National Shellfish Sanitation Program guidelines for an “OPEN” status.     

Therefore under authority of MGL, Chapter 130, Section 74A, 75 and 322 CMR  7.01 (7) the below-defined areas will revert to their former status prior to the closure of July 7, 2017; effective at sunrise Wednesday, July 12, 2017. 

Those areas previously classified as APPROVED and  in the “OPEN “ status to shellfish harvesting are now open to the harvest of shellfish for direct  human consumption subject to local rules and regulations under authority of MGL Chapter 130, section 52. Similarly, those areas classified as CONDITIONALLY APPROVED are open subject to the classification conditions. Areas classified as RESTRICTED, CONDITIONALLY RESTRICTED and PROHIBITED remain closed to the harvest of shellfish for direct human consumption.

This annual art festival features silent and live art auctions, artists painting live on location, food and music on the Cotuit Village Green. Noon – 1:00pm – Food: Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Polar Cave Ice Cream and more! Music: Bart Weisman Smooth Jazz Group
1:00 – 2:30pm – Live Auction with Charley Bailey-Gates: Bring a folding chair and enjoy the fun! Bid on art to support local artist and the Museum!
All Day – Children’s Arts and Crafts, Cahoon Museum Pop-Up Gift Shop!

 

 

Shellfishing Closed

The Town of Barnstable is CLOSED TO ALL HARVEST OF SHELLFISH until further notice per order of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

Please be advised that due to extreme rainfall, the Division of Marine Fisheries has issued an emergency closure for all conditionally approved and approved shellfish growing areas East of the Cape Cod Canal in the Towns of Sandwich, Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee and Barnstable, and Lewis Bay in Yarmouth. The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
