Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod “You CAN Do It!”

Project Summary: Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod (ACC) will launch a community-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event highlighting youth development and service to others through a creative and comprehensive series of learning and serving activities. “YOU CAN DO IT!” will provide a diverse, multi-faceted day of service that addresses the critical needs of people and organizations within the town of Barnstable. ACC plans to serve with multiple groups such as the Barnstable Youth Commission and the YMCA Cape Cod to organize hands-on activities promoting a creative community food drive, preparing food to distribute to low-income youth, making blankets for the homeless, supporting the “no plastic bags in Barnstable” initiative, and using recyclable materials to create original art. All service activities will occur within one central location at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in the heart of downtown Hyannis. AmeriCorps will reach people of all ages to serve on MLK Day
