Kick off your summer with this wonderful, family friendly event. Enjoy delicious strawberry shortcake made with fresh strawberries, tender biscuits and homemade whipped cream. New this year will be the offering of root beer floats to complete this classic summer tradition. Tour the museums, visit the gift shop, and enjoy the historical kitchen gardens. Admission is $6.00 per person. ($5 for HSSC members.) Rain or Shine!

Town Manager Recommends New Chief of Police

TOWN MANAGER MARK ELLS RECOMMENDS
NEW CHIEF OF THE BARNSTABLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

HYANNIS, MA (May 25, 2018) – Today Town Manager Mark Ells announced he is moving forward with the appointment of Deputy Chief Matthew Sonnabend as the next Police Chief for the Town of Barnstable, subject to approval by Town Council. Deputy Chief Sonnabend has served in the U.S. Army Military Police, Falmouth and Barnstable Police Departments spanning 21 years of law enforcement experience and advancing to his current position of Deputy Chief. Deputy Chief Sonnabend was one of two candidates that placed first on the Police Chief Eligibility List resulting from the Assessment Center conducted in February as required by Civil Service and in following Civil Service procedures as required for the hiring of our Police Chief. In making this decision Mr. Ells also took into consideration the results of a citizen survey, community stakeholder panel and an individual interview with the Town Manager. Mr. Ells plans to bring forward for Town Council ratification Deputy Chief Sonnabend as our next Chief of Police on June 7, 2018.

Cotuit Fire District Public Meetings

Residents of the Cotuit Fire District will notice on the first line of the tax summary of your tax bill it reads “COTRES” meaning Cotuit Residents. This assessment is collected by the Cotuit Fire District to maintain the public water system, provide emergency ambulance and fire services, maintain & manage Freedom Hall and provide streetlights throughout the District.

Meetings of the Fire & Water Commissioners and the Prudential Committee are held at Freedom Hall. To view the Agendas see below or go to the Town of Barnstable’s front page under Official Agendas http://www.townofbarnstable.us. All meetings must be posted with at least 48 hours notice, excluding Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays.

The Annual Election for Fire & Water Commissioners and the Prudential Committee takes place on the fourth Tuesday in May, 4-8pm at Freedom Hall. The Annual District Meeting is held the next day, Wednesday in May, 7:30pm at Freedom Hall. Eligible voters are encouraged to attend to determine how the Cotuit Fire District tax revenues are spent.
