Reminder: Vessel Storage Deadline Approaches

The Harbormaster’s office reminds residents that no vessel shall be stored or placed on any Town property between November 15 and April 15 without written permission from the Harbormaster. Any vessel placed or remaining between those dates shall be considered abandoned property and will be removed by the Town. The Town of Barnstable shall not be responsible for damage to or theft neither of any vessel placed nor for loss of property considered abandoned under this Town’s regulation. Questions? Shellfishing Reopens on South Side

UPDATE: 9/10/21

After three rounds of water quality sampling conducted by the Division of Marine Fisheries, Barnstable Harbor remains CLOSED TO SHELLFISHING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
All other areas previously in open status prior to the September 2, 2021 closure are now once again open to shellfishing.

Popponessett Bay, Cotuit Bay, West Bay and Barnstable Harbor remain closed until further notice.

The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries has closed the state of Massachusetts to the harvest of shellfish until further notice due to excessive rainfall amounts across the state. As soon as shellfishing is re-opened, you will be notified.

The division of marine fisheries has instituted a statewide shellfishing closure effective at sunrise Sunday August 22, 2021 until further notice. They will revisit the closure following the hurricane.

Small Vessel Decal Required

Small Vessel Decals Required for all small vessels stored on Town owned land. This decal enables better tracking of all vessels stored on Town owned land as well as an added resource for emergency contact should a vessel go adrift. April 15th to November 15th Permit decals are available for purchase online. Monday through Friday 8:30AM – 4:15PM at the Marine and Environmental Affairs Department located at 1189 Phinney’s Lane, Centerville. Excluding Holidays. Process to request a decal: 1. Send an email to mea@town.barnstable.ma.us 2. Include in the email the following: Full Name, Mailing Address, Local Address if different than mailing, Phone number, Email Address, Date of birth,Size of Vessel (must be less than 12 ft. – Cotuit Town Dock less than 10 ft.), Make of Vessel, Color of Vessel & Emergency Contact number (different than your phone number) Once received. We will send you a link back by email so you can pay online. A small vessel decal will be sent to you in the mail following payment. The decal is to be placed on your vessel BEFORE it is stored on Town land. Preferably on the stern, starboard side.
