Please be aware of a new telephone fraud scam in which the scam caller identifies themselves as a Town of Barnstable employee.

The caller asks if you would like a map of your property and asks for your bank account information to make the $1 payment. They then use that information to steal funds from your account.

No employees from the Town of Barnstable are calling people to provide this service, nor would they ask for bank account information.

* WHAT…South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
expected.

* WHERE…In Massachusetts, Barnstable MA, Dukes MA and
Nantucket MA Counties. In Rhode Island, Block Island RI County.

* WHEN…From 11 PM this evening to 8 AM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be
difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
