On October 4th at 2:20 p.m, FEMA, in coordination with the FCC, will test its nationwide Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts. The purpose is to ensure that the systems continue to be an effective means of warning the public about national emergencies.
The Emergency Alert System test will be sent to radios and television. The Wireless Emergency Alerts test will send a message to all cell phones that reads: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
